Civic Trust in Action: Cities, Research, and the Next Generation
Description
A Civic Forum with Mayors Todd Gloria and David Holt
A collaboration between UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies, the National Conflict Resolution Center, the Center for Transparent and Trusted Elections (UC San Diego), Let’sTalkUs, and Creative City Building partners including the Downtown San Diego Partnership and the Prebys Foundation
The program features San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt, two nationally recognized civic leaders who have each served as President of the United States Conference of Mayors. Their dialogue offers a timely opportunity to examine how American cities are navigating increasing responsibility for core public needs while responding to rising expectations for transparency, accountability, and effective governance.
At its core, the conversation is grounded in a shared challenge facing cities nationwide: how to maintain civic trust in an environment where public institutions are asked to solve increasingly complex social, economic, and infrastructure challenges, often with limited resources and growing public scrutiny.
Rather than focusing on partisan frameworks, the program centers on a practical question: how do cities design systems, policies, and civic relationships that sustain trust over time?
