Intersections Concert featuring Allan Phillips: Global Soundscapes, Shared Rhythms
A Celebration of Music, Community, and Homecoming
Free and open to the public
Join UC San Diego for a special evening of music as the Intersections Concert Series kick off Homecoming weekend with a vibrant celebration for students, families, alumni, and the wider San Diego community.
Featuring award-winning composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Allan Phillips, Global Soundscapes, Shared Rhythms brings together Afro-Indigenous, Afro-Latin, jazz, funk, reggae, classical, and global musical traditions in a dynamic performance that crosses borders and genres.
Born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, Phillips draws on the musical traditions of his heritage alongside decades of work as a composer, performer, arranger, and producer. His music explores the ways rhythms travel across cultures, how traditions evolve, and how music can connect people across generations and communities.
The evening will also feature Kamau Kenyatta, acclaimed composer, educator, and cultural historian, who will offer brief insights throughout the program, helping audiences discover the stories, traditions, and cultural influences woven into the music.
